Elementary school students working on raising cherry salmon in the south river that flows through Oi Town, Fukui Prefecture, released the fry they raised into the river.

Sakuramasu is a salmonid fish that lays eggs after growing up in the sea and returns to the river where it was born. ..

This year, after the children of three elementary schools hatched their eggs in December last year, they have learned about the environment of the river while raising fry.

On the 4th, 53 fourth-year students from Imatomi Elementary School in Obama City released about 200 fry that grew up to about 5 cm in length into a tributary of the Minami River.

After that, the children toured the fishway maintained in the river, and the person in charge of the prefecture explained that cherry salmon needed a fishway to go up the river.

The boy who released the fish said, "Since the cherry salmon we raised left ourselves, we felt lonely and happy. I want them to grow up and survive to the end even in nature."

It is expected that the released fry will descend to the sea in about a year and return to the Minami River around the spring of next year.
