Senegalese opponent Ousmane Sonko was arrested for "disturbing public order and participating in an unauthorized demonstration" on March 3, while on his way to the Dakar courthouse following a charge of rape.

Immediately, anger rose in the street;
supporters clashed with the police chanting "free Sonko".
