Pas-de-Calais probably confined in turn on weekends

Like every Thursday, the French are wondering what will be the measures that will be announced by the government in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.

This time, a government source leaked some information Wednesday before the Prime Minister officially spoke today.

According to this source, Jean Castex should announce the establishment of a weekend containment in Pas-de-Calais.

On the other hand, neither Paris, nor Ile de France, nor any other of the 20 departments placed under enhanced surveillance should be affected by this measure.

Karachi case: Justice delivers today its decision against Balladur and Léotard

While Edouard Balladur's unsuccessful presidential campaign dates back to 1995, the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR) renders its decision this Thursday on accusations of hidden financing targeting the former Prime Minister and his former Minister of Defense François Léotard, part of the Karachi case.

The President of the Court, Dominique Pauthe, is due to begin reading his judgment at 11 a.m.

The prosecution requested on February 2 a year of suspended sentence and a 50,000 euros fine against Edouard Balladur.

A two-year suspended prison sentence and 100,000 euros fine was requested against François Léotard, 78, prosecuted for "complicity".

"Bloody" day in Burma, at least 38 dead

The coup d'état of February 1 in Burma has just taken a dramatic turn.

At least thirty-eight demonstrators for democracy were killed and several injured on Wednesday by security forces who continue to fire live ammunition, defying the concert of international protests.

The UN envoy for Burma, the Swiss Christine Schraner Burgener, called on the UN members to take “strong” sanctions after this “bloodiest” day since the coup.

This Thursday, while fear is in everyone's mind, demonstrators took to the streets to protest against the military junta.
