The Executive Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, Jamal bin Huwaireb, stressed the importance of reading and its impact on the life of the individual and the family and on the development of society, considering that countries are measured by the number of readers in them.

During a virtual seminar organized by the Community Development Authority in Dubai, within the activities of the National Reading Month, bin Huwaireb stressed the importance of instilling reading among children at early ages, pointing out that there is no renaissance without knowledge and there is no knowledge without reading, and devoting a month to reading in every A year that comes with a belief from the leadership in that, and with the aim of achieving the National Policy for Reading.

Bin Huwaireb said that the state has made great strides in this field, whether in terms of spreading awareness of the importance of reading among members of society and the people of the Arab world in general, or in terms of significantly raising reading rates, whether for printed or digital books or articles and social media publications, among others.

The Community Development Authority in Dubai announced a set of virtual events and initiatives that it organizes in conjunction with the National Reading Month, which aims to increase the awareness of community members about the importance of adopting reading as a daily practice at the level of the individual, family and institutions, and awareness of its impact on opening new knowledge horizons and community development.

The month of reading is organized this year under the slogan "My Family Reads".

The authority, in cooperation with its partners from entities and institutions, headed by the Mohammed bin Rashid Knowledge Foundation, will provide during the month of reading links to free e-books on various topics that employees can download and read in order to encourage them with suggestions for the best books that can be read, and a competition will be launched among its employees for the most beautiful home library that includes books That the employee and his family read, highlighting the impact of the existence of this library on the culture and awareness of family members.

The Authority’s activities for the month of reading will also include the launch of a virtual reading club, through which employees will present summaries of the books they finish reading, in order to contribute to the transfer of knowledge and the excitement of the rest of the employees to read these books.

For her part, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the Community Development Authority, Kholoud Al-Sharaf said, “The authority will work to achieve the greatest possible benefit from the month of reading and invest in the enthusiasm of employees to reach a set of goals, on top of which is spreading awareness of the importance of knowledge exchange and the great and positive impact of the practice. The daily reading is based on the thinking pattern of individuals and their general and specialized culture, as well as creating new channels for knowledge exchange between the Authority’s employees and developing their interests ”.

Kholoud added: “We saw great enthusiasm from employees to participate in the virtual reading club, and there is no doubt that the circumstances of the pandemic contributed to the rearrangement of priorities and helped some to find more time for reading, and we expect that the month of reading will enhance this interest and be a new starting point for every individual and family even Reading becomes a daily habit and an indispensable routine. ”
