While a new defense council is being held on Wednesday morning, the question of reconfinement on weekends for the 20 departments under enhanced surveillance is on the table.

In particular, the images of gatherings in the parks and on the docks observed in recent days with the return of good weather.

But is there a real risk of covid-19 contamination in the open?

Europe 1 takes stock.

DECRYPTION

A new defense council is taking place on Wednesday morning, around this question in particular: should the weekend be confined in the 20 departments under reinforced surveillance, including Paris?

At the heart of the reflection, the gatherings in the middle of the day, in the parks, on the quays, which with the beautiful days, were numerous all over France, as evidenced by the images relayed on social networks.

But is there really a danger of contamination outside?

Yes, but limited, according to an American study

The risk does exist, according to scientists.

But this is usually a limited danger.

A large study was interested in the question, headed by American researchers.

It concludes that out of 25,000 people with Covid-19, only 6% have been infected outdoors.

And this most often during gatherings in restricted areas, where social distancing was therefore not respected.

This question had already been asked during the Fête de la Musique last June in France, or during previous gatherings in parks or along the quays of large cities when the sun was pointing the tip of its nose.

Verdict: no cluster linked to these precise moments could be identified.

But be careful: you must respect the mask and the distance

This does not mean, however, that there is no contamination on the outside.

"We must distinguish two situations: the first, being outdoors, going to gardens, forests, where the risk is probably extremely residual," explains Benjamin Davido, infectious disease specialist at the Raymond Poincaré hospital in Garches.

"Second situation: the one where we are going to gather in a crowd, stuck together, where we will talk, we will cry, we will sing, we will sputter, and we will create aerosols of droplets in extremely difficult situations. at risk of inhalation. "

The main thing, once again, is therefore to respect distancing and barrier gestures as much as possible.

In the event of reconfinement on weekends, it is not only these outdoor gatherings that the government wants to limit.

It also and above all targets travel for private gatherings, with family or friends, which remain the main identified place of contamination.
