"Empty-nest youth" refers to young people who live apart from their parents and relatives, are single, and rent a house alone.

Recently, Hu Wei, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and full-time vice chairman of the Shanghai Democratic Progressive Committee, said in an interview with a reporter from China News Agency that the gradual increase in the proportion of "empty-nest youths" in big cities is not caused by one aspect.

Hu Wei suggested that eligible "empty-nest youths" should be provided with preferential policies for purchasing houses. Secondly, the mental health of "empty-nest youths" should be strengthened.

Special research topics should be set up to promote the transition from "empty-nest youth" to "nest youth".
