Barbara Pompili assured Monday that the government respected "the spirit" of the Citizen's Convention for the Climate (CCC), which ended Sunday by noting very severely the translation by the government of its proposals.

"On the issues, we took up the spirit of everything that the members of the Citizens' Convention wanted", declared the Minister of Ecological Transition before the special committee of the National Assembly on the bill "climate change and resilience ”, which should reflect part of the CCC's proposals.

"We did not take everything back"

The members of this unprecedented participatory democracy body, wanted by Emmanuel Macron at the end of the “yellow vests” crisis and responsible for proposing measures to reduce France's greenhouse gas emissions by 40%, estimated on Sunday that the translation by the executive of their proposals would not achieve this objective.

"We did not take everything (of these proposals) because we noted that there were a certain number of points which required either an adaptation or a work with the actors concerned so that it is better accepted", a explained Barbara Pompili to the deputies, giving the example of the air sector, "very damaged".

"Very ambitious" text

"If there have been changes in relation to what the citizens' convention wanted, it is certainly not to change the spirit but to ensure that we can implement it in the most effective way. possible, ”she continued, assuring that there was“ no decline in ambition ”.

“There will be a lot of requests for perspective on this text, because contrary to what a little music suggests, this text is still very ambitious and you will have the opportunity to hear some who find that he is too ambitious, that he wants to go too fast, too far, that it is too complicated, ”she predicted, referring to future parliamentary debates.

"I will only give a favorable opinion on measures which reinforce the ambition of this text and not on measures which lower it, after the parliament is sovereign and will vote what it wants", she insisted.
