  • Nicolas Talliu, 33-year-old nurseryman and “plant keeper” during the holidays, is launching a new concept from Monday in Lyon: a “SPA” for plants.

  • It is about collecting the plants, intended to be discarded, to perk them up and give them a second life.

  • They will then be intended for resale to individuals.

In his small greenhouse, the indoor temperature is 35 ° C.

A calming ambience emerges as the rays of the sun flood the room.

On the shelves, green plants abound.

Some, very badly in point, ask only to be saved.

Others, stored outside, take advantage of the very early spring mildness.

While waiting to be repotted.

And to be pampered.

"It's the same principle as the SPA", smiles Nicolas Talliu.

On Monday, this 33-year-old nurseryman will open in Lyon (in the heart of the Halle des Girondins, 7th arrondissement) the first “plant protection society”.

Its credo: recover the plantations that local producers are preparing to throw away to give them a second life and collect dying plants from individuals.

" There are many possibilities.

Either, we start with a care service and give the plant back to its owner, once it has come back to life.

Either people want to get rid of it and leave it here, ”he explains.

In this case, the plants, once refreshed, will be put up for sale.

Others, born from cuttings, will be patiently cultivated to be also offered for "adoption".

Like a little animal to be taken care of.

Fight against waste and promote short circuits

“People will also be able to come and take advice.

If they come with photos of their balcony and terrace, I will be able to look at the exposure to the sun and guide them on what type of plants to acquire ”, specifies the young man, a graduate as a landscape architect.

Resistant plants, adapted to the climate, which would not have to be thrown away after a year.

Behind this action, there is an ecological approach, a desire to raise awareness.

And Nicolas Talliu does not hide it.

It is a question of combating waste, but not only that.

“For several years now, we have seen a frenzy for plants.

Flash sales are increasing.

It's really great but few people know that the plants bought have sometimes gone around the planet twice before being sold in France, ”he explains.

And to add: “Here, everything is local.

Fertilizer, compost and soil, in which the plants are repotted, come from short circuits [and will be sold on site].

The aim is to show visitors that they can then do the same thing without generating a huge carbon footprint ”.

Installed on a plot of 300 square meters, the young man, who also keeps the plants of holidaymakers, dreams of acquiring, within a year, a plot of one hectare in the city center.

“Few nurserymen want to settle in the city because they generally think there is no demand or places.

However, there are some but it is difficult to meet the demand, ”he concludes.
