On February 25, 1921, the Soviet animator, People's Artist of the RSFSR Roman Kachanov was born in Smolensk. At the dawn of his career, he worked under the direction of such famous directors as Dmitry Babichenko, Ivan Ivanov-Vano and Vladimir Polkovnikov. Roman Kachanov made his directorial debut in the late 1950s, with the release of the cartoon "The Old Man and the Crane". Among the most famous works of the cartoonist are the animated films "Mitten", "The Mystery of the Third Planet", as well as a cycle of pictures about the adventures of the crocodile Gena and Cheburashka.
