[Explanation] On February 23, Xiao Fabi, a researcher at the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the leader of the ancient city wall archaeology project on South Gaoshi Road in Yichun, confirmed that the ancient city wall ruins discovered in the downtown area of Yichun, Jiangxi Province are rare and relatively well-preserved ruins of the Tang Dynasty city wall in China .

In June 2020, a large number of city wall bricks were found during the construction of South Gaoshi Road in Yichun, Jiangxi. After inspection by the business staff of Yichun City Museum, it was preliminarily inferred to be the site of the ancient city wall.

In November of the same year, after being reported to the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China for approval, the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, together with Yichun City Museum and other units, conducted rescue archaeological exploration and excavation of the remains of the ancient city wall.

The west side of the road is more than 5 meters long, and it is well preserved. The height is 3.8 meters at the highest, the width at the bottom is 9.8 meters, and the upper side is 8.3 meters. Such a large city wall is relatively majestic.

[Explanation] Xiao Fabiao told reporters that comparing the size of the city bricks used in the city wall to the ancient city wall of Yuanzhou-the city wall bricks from Song Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasty unearthed from the north wall, as well as the tiles and city walls from the rammed earth layer between the inner and outer walls of the city wall Judging by the superimposed and broken relationship of other architectural relics in later generations, the construction period of the wall of Gaoshi South Road was from the late Tang to the Five Dynasties.

The outer blue brick wall was built in the late Tang Dynasty, and the inner white brick wall was built in the Five Dynasties.

Xiao Fabiao also stated that China's building of brick cities began in the Tang Dynasty. At present, the existing ancient city walls in Xi'an, Yangzhou and other places were built in the Ming Dynasty, and there are only relics of the Tang Dynasty walls.

The four-meter-high, 80-meter-long brick-coated city wall of the Late Tang and Five Dynasties discovered in Yichun, Jiangxi this time, is a rare and relatively well-preserved Tang Dynasty city wall in China. It has great archaeological, historical, scientific and cultural value.

The rescue archaeological excavation is basically over. The next step is to protect it by the cultural relics protection department before submitting for approval.

Build these relic parks to show the history and culture of our ancient city in Yuanzhou.
