To protect against corona infections, teachers at elementary and special schools as well as educators in daycare centers should be able to get vaccinated earlier than previously planned.

This was announced by the chairman of the state health ministers, Bavaria's head of department Klaus Holetschek (CSU), after discussions with Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU).

These employees should be brought forward from the third to the second group of the vaccination sequence, as far as the necessary vaccine is available in the countries.

Spahn has put a draft for an amendment to the vaccination ordinance in the vote, which is expected to come into force this Wednesday.

The higher prioritization should enable a quick and safe implementation of the opening strategies of the federal states in daycare centers and primary schools, according to the draft that is available to the German press agency.

Because this will lead to many, often close contacts, especially since not all protective measures can be implemented well for smaller children.

The Bavarian Health Minister Holetschek said: "We have to protect professional groups with a particularly high risk of infection."

Spahn and several countries had spoken out in favor of bringing forward the vaccinations that are currently in the first priority group.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the prime ministers of the federal states had previously asked for an examination.

The health ministers added that special needs schools were also included.

The federal states would have voted in favor of this new regulation without opposing votes, explained Holetschek.
