Forty-eight hours after the attack with a knife of an official of the center for asylum seekers Isard Cos, the Pau public prosecutor's office indicates this Sunday, that "the defendant was the subject of an indictment this day by the investigating magistrate for assassination.

He was placed in the wake of pre-trial detention at the Pau remand center.

At around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, this 38-year-old Sudanese presented himself at the reception center for asylum seekers, where he is suspected of having stabbed several times - 13 wounds were identified - to a department head of the center, before being overpowered by employees, then questioned without offering any resistance.

The 46-year-old victim, a father of two, an experienced social worker who had been head of the structure's "asylum" pole for six years, died of his injuries about an hour after the beatings, said the prosecutor.

The prosecution rules out "any terrorist intention"

In France since 2015, but doomed to an imminent expulsion, the suspect "harbored reproaches" towards the structure, and wanted to avoid returning to Sudan at war, according to the prosecution, which ruled out "any terrorist intention".

The attacker was "neither reported, nor recorded in the context of violent radicalization, and the elements collected make it possible to rule out any terrorist intention," Cécile Gensac stressed on Saturday.

The man was the subject of a first psychiatric examination, which "did not reveal any pathology".
