    explains everything about Star.

“Five worlds, one destination” was Disney + 's slogan when it was launched.

After Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic, the American platform has a “sixth world”, called “Star”.

The new “Star” section reinforces the existing Disney + offer, ”explained Hélène Etzi, president of The Walt Disney Company France, during a press conference

attended by

Why is Disney + launching Star?

Less than fourteen months after its launch in North America and the Netherlands on November 12, 2019, Disney + already entertains 94.9 million subscribers in 58 countries.

The big-eared firm reached the target set for 2024 in 2020. A success due in part to the pandemic, but also, according to David Popineau, "to the clarity of our offer and the quality of the films and series that the We propose ".

Disney has also learned the lessons of the cult HBO series,

Game Of Thrones

, which it applies carefully to these series

The Mandalorian

and

WandaVision

, broadcast on a weekly basis and calling for great fan involvement on social networks.

Becoming the leader in streaming, a place currently occupied by Netflix, is Disney's “number 1 priority”.

The confession comes from Bob Iger, the CEO of the big-eared firm.

“Disney has never rested on its laurels and that is not part of our corporate culture,” warns Hélène Etzi.

"Our ambition with Star is to move from a service that is more for the family, to a service for each of us, for all tastes and desires", announces David Popineau.

What content will Star offer?

On February 23, Star will offer 250 films and documentaries and around 40 series.

“We will offer 3,800 hours of content in addition to the 6,200 hours already available on Disney +”, figures David Popineau.

"We will arrive at a total of 700 films and series within twelve months, and that only for the world of Star", he announces.

Where does this content come from?

"We have many studios that have not yet crossed the doors of Disney +," recalls David Popineau.

Star will therefore benefit from television content produced by ABC Signature, 20th Television and FX and films produced by 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures.

“The key to success is a clever balance between catalog content and exclusive new products,” said David Popineau.

On the film side, Star will offer classics from 20th Century Studios such as the

Alien

and

Die Hard

sagas

, the hits

Titanic, Pretty Woman, Moulin Rouge, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, La Mouche, Mary à tout prix,

La Ligne Rouge,

and the successes of Searchlight Pictures like

Grand Budapest Hotel, Little Miss Sunshine, Black Swan

, or

28 Days Later.

On the series side, Star relies on a vast catalog of “Proust madeleines” such as

Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Prison Break, 24H Chrono, Desperate Housewives, X-Files, Lost, Alias, Bones, Sons of Anarchy, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, Modern Family, New Girls

or even

Black-Ish

.

Star also offers adult animated series like

The Griffins

and

American Dad.

Star has also acquired French series such as

Fais pas ci, faire pas ça

,

Moloch,

Les Bracelets Rouges

and

Je te promis

.

Star will also offer original content, the “Star Originals”.

At launch,

Big Sky

, the new crime thriller from David E. Kelley, the fantasy series Helstrom, the animated series

Solar Opposite

and the queer and cheezy romance comedy

, Victor

.

Star is also developing two French productions, the

Oussekine

miniseries

, on the death of Malik Oussekine, and a documentary series dedicated to the rapper

Soprano.

How much does Star cost?

If the Disney + catalog will grow considerably, the price of the platform subscription will increase.

As of February 23, the monthly subscription goes from 6.99 euros to 8.99 euros, the annual subscription from 69.99 euros to 89.90 euros, or 2 euros per month and 20 euros additional per year.

People who already subscribed monthly before February 23 "will pay only 6.99 euros per month for six months", and "those who took an annual subscription at the launch of Disney + will be able to renew their subscription at the current price of 69.90 euros" , details David Popineau, who does not fail to point out “that there are a few days left to subscribe.

"

A subscription allows you to configure 7 profiles and 4 screens simultaneously, 4K and Atmos sound and the Group Watch feature "which allows you to watch a movie or a series episode together, even when you are separated by distance.

"

Will my children have access to Star?

On Star, "we will find these films and series that we cannot watch with his children," warns David Popineau.

Disney will "ensure perfect protection of the youngest audience", reassures Hélène Etzi.

The platform therefore reinforces parental control.

“Children” profiles will not have access to Star.

Access to Star via adult profiles can be secured using a personalized Pin code.

"This is completely new for a SVOD service because we really want to give parents all the serenity they need when they leave their children in front of Disney +", rejoices David Popineau.

"Disney + has a fantastic proposition, because of its intergenerational appeal, it speaks to the child that we all have in ourselves, and soon with Star, he will also speak to the adult," he concludes.
