While the Ministry of Culture has defined the conditions for holding summer festivals this Thursday, the organizers are already working on the development of these events.

Guest from Europe 1 on Thursday, the general manager of Vieilles Charrues, Jérôme Trehorel, outlined some ideas for this 2021 edition.

2021 will not be a silent year.

The Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot, drew up the outlines of a protocol for the organization of summer festivals.

These will have the possibility to accommodate 5,000 people maximum, seated, masked and distanced.

If these conditions are likely to change with the health situation, the general director of the Vieilles Charrues festival has shared his enthusiasm and has started to sketch the outlines of the 2021 edition of the festival.

Where can we find 5,000 chairs?

The protocol must inevitably lead him to rethink his organization.

While it is obviously a challenge, Jérôme Trehorel sees it above all as an opportunity to innovate: "We are going to do something nice, it will be surprising", he warns.

Chairs, bleachers or straw bales, the festival director is in any case considering reducing the size of the stage and occupying the space differently to ensure the distances between the participants.

"The idea is to occupy the site but in a different way to also surprise the public."

The event should in any case continue on the site of the municipality of Carhaix-Plouguer.

With or without restaurants?

While many doubt the maintenance of restaurants and bars on festival sites, Jérôme Trehorel is less categorical.

"It's not done yet. It's something that needs to be discussed as part of the sanitary measures."

He invokes an obligation to offer a catering service, in the same way as sanitary facilities, when the participants are required to stay several hours on the site.

According to his terms, refreshing oneself and sustaining oneself will have to respond more to an obligation of "service" than of "profitability".

Make up for lost time with more parties?

The traditional four-day festival, with concerts from early afternoon until one in the morning, should be turned upside down.

The obligation to control the gauge of participants leads Jérôme Trehorel to consider a longer festival.

If it remains very mysterious on this subject, he assures that the Vieilles Charrues 2021 will last more than four days.

"We will be more on concert evening formats with two or three artists per evening," he says, concluding with a smile: "We want to celebrate this reunion."
