Brigitte Bardot called on the Minister of Agriculture for help on Thursday in order to obtain financial assistance for her foundation which collects abandoned or suffering animals, in the face of the influx of farm animals.

“In February alone, we have to organize the reception of 100 cattle and 400 sheep in Seine-Maritime, 56 cattle in Dordogne, 150 cattle in the North, 90 cattle in Deux-Sèvres etc, each both in the context of a mistreatment procedure ”, indicates Brigitte Bardot in a letter addressed to Minister Julien Denormandie and dated Wednesday.

A request for help "for the first time"

The Foundation has already "under its protection more than 1,000 equines, as many cattle, more than 500 goats, 250 pigs or even 2,500 sheep", for "an annual cost of several million euros", writes the former actress, famous now as an activist for the animal cause.

"For the first time" since the creation of her foundation 35 years ago, she says she has to ask for help from the state.

"We are only in February and we have already exceeded the margin that we had planned to organize all the rescues for the year", adds Brigitte Bardot.

Between the cracks of the recovery plan

“We are increasingly called upon by the veterinary services.

A budget of 3.5 million euros for farm animal pensions was adopted by the board of directors on Wednesday.

We are at the cleat and we no longer have the possibility of preparing other rescues, ”Christophe Marie, spokesperson for the Foundation, told AFP.

He regrets that "the government's stimulus plan concerns only pets and the reception of equines".

“There should be consideration of this specific issue of farm animals,” he believes.

As part of this recovery plan, the Minister of Agriculture had released 14 million euros so that animal protection structures spread over French territory could continue their mission, finance sterilization campaigns for cats and stray dogs. , renovate, upgrade or build shelters.
