Two people, including the president of a construction company in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture, were arrested for deceiving the "sustainable benefits" provided by the government to a business operator whose sales fell due to the effects of the new coronavirus.

In response to the investigation, they all denied the charges.

The people arrested were Momoko Wakasa (34), the president of a construction company in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture, and Keiko Nakagawa (31), a clerk.

According to police, in August last year, the two applied for a 19-year-old boy in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, pretending to be a sole proprietor by attaching a final tax return for fraud, and the national "sustainability benefit". There is a suspicion of fraud for deceiving one million yen.

According to investigators, the company has more than 100 related applications and is expected to receive benefits of 100 million yen.

Employees of the company have also been arrested and prosecuted so far, and police are investigating suspected of being deceived by the entire company.

Both of the two arrested denied the charges, and Wakasa stated that he "thought it was applicable to the applicant."
