(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) 2 Hong Kong Men Sentenced for Violating the Quarantine Order so far 109 people have been convicted of violating the quarantine order

  China News Service, Hong Kong, February 17th. The Department of Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 17th that two men had violated the "Regulations on Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Arrivals" (Chapter 599C) ("Regulations") on the 17th in the Magistrates' Courts. They were sentenced to 14 days and 2 months imprisonment.

So far, 109 people have been convicted by the court for violating the quarantine order.

  The first case involved a 65-year-old man. He was issued a compulsory quarantine order earlier, stating that he must undergo compulsory quarantine at home for 14 days.

Before the expiry of the quarantine order, he left his quarantine site on March 31 last year without reasonable excuse and without the permission of an authorized officer. He was intercepted by the staff of the Immigration Department at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge control point.

The man was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment in Fanling Magistracy on the 17th.

  The second case involved a 61-year-old man. He was issued a compulsory quarantine order earlier, stating that he must undergo compulsory quarantine at home for 14 days.

Before the quarantine order expired, he left his quarantine site and took off his wristband on November 28 last year without reasonable excuse and without the permission of an authorized person.

The man was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment in the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on the 17th for each of the two crimes, which were executed simultaneously.

  A spokesperson for the Department of Health said that the sentence can give the society very clear information, pointing out that violating the quarantine order is a criminal offence. The SAR government will not tolerate those who violate the Regulations and solemnly remind the public to abide by the Regulations.

  The spokesman announced that as of the 17th, a total of 109 people have been convicted by the court for violating the quarantine order, sentenced to immediate imprisonment for up to 14 weeks or fined up to HK$15,000.

The spokesperson reiterated that the Department of Health will definitely follow up any violation of relevant regulations.
