Saitama Prefecture has announced that it has confirmed that two new people have been infected with the mutated coronavirus that spreads in the United Kingdom.

According to Saitama Prefecture, new infections with the mutant virus were confirmed in two girls under the age of 10 and women in their 40s living in the prefecture.



According to the prefecture, the two became ill from the middle to the end of last month, neither had a history of staying in the United Kingdom, and had no contact with an unspecified number of people.



Both are mildly ill, and women in their 40s are hospitalized, but girls under the age of 10 have completed medical treatment.



A girl under the age of 10 is a family member living with a boy under the age of 10 whose infection was announced on the 8th of this month.



In addition, a woman in her 40s was a staff member of a children's facility where it was confirmed that multiple people were infected with the mutant virus on the 5th of this month, and 19 people were infected with this facility.



Saitama Prefecture will continue to strengthen monitoring by conducting screening tests as well as checking for the spread of infection, such as by testing close contacts.



This brings the number of confirmed mutant virus infections to 37 in Saitama Prefecture.
