On March 8, Nîmes (Gard) will join the network of towns which have adopted the “Where is Angela?

», Aimed at combating street harassment.

Reims, Caen and Amiens have already implemented this code, inspired by an English concept, “Ask for Angela”.

Anyone who feels harassed or bothered in the street can go to a "refuge" establishment, indicated by a sticker on the window, and ask "Where is Angela?"

".

The shopkeeper will then designate "an emergency fallback zone out of sight (reserves, offices, etc.) in order to isolate the victim and call a member of his family, a taxi or the police depending on the severity. facts ”, indicates the municipality.

About a hundred shops

Around a hundred businesses will participate in the operation in Nîmes, including ready-to-wear boutiques, a real estate agency, a grocery store, a restaurant, a wine merchant, a pet store or a decoration store.

Forty have so far been trained in how to behave.

"Numerous testimonies or alerts from women assaulted in the street or not feeling safe in public space still too often come back to us from the field," says Mylène Mouton (various), elected to Women's Rights.

I am delighted with the immediate adherence to the Angela device demonstrated by businesses in Nîmes.

Over 90 merchants came forward 24 hours after receiving our solicitation email.
