  • “Universarium” was launched Thursday by a director from Lyon.

  • This interactive space museum allows you to immerse yourself in the discovery of astronomy, space exploration or astrophysics, via free or low-cost video content.

  • Popularized knowledge to be accessible to the greatest number.

From the birth of the sun to the origin of the moon, including the formation of stars… Since Thursday, an interactive museum on Space has been available online to the general public.

Universarium was imagined and designed by a Lyonnais, director of popular science space series, to make knowledge about the universe accessible to everyone.

"I am convinced that it is a subject that fascinates but that many people prevent themselves from studying it for fear of not understanding or for lack of having found accessible information and content, underlines Cyril Plou, anxious to popularize his knowledge to make it understandable by the greatest number.

Whereas to be interested in space, it is to be interested in the world which surrounds us, in technologies born from space explorations ”.

Among these multiple innovations, the GPS, the survival blanket, the airbag or even the MRI (medical imaging) were imagined or developed thanks to space travel.

Pulsar, exoplanets, wormholes

To simply explain the phenomena, the history or the mysteries of space, while guaranteeing reliable information to Internet users, the 32-year-old Lyonnais trained, step by step, by studying until he acquired a large amount of knowledge. .

“I have no scientific training.

I learned things as I went along, I trained with the help of the space agency and various players in space and scientific experts ”, confides the man who started to produce series on the space in 2017 by creating its YouTube channel Above Earth.

In four years, he has directed around sixty documentaries.

The coronavirus pandemic and the more than limited access to culture in recent months have made him want to go further to share his passion.

From now on, the series presented until then on Above Earth are available free of charge on the museum's website.

Among the many videos to watch, everyone can, for example, discover how the sun was born, what pulsars, exoplanets or wormholes are, or even immerse themselves in space exploration.

Universarium is the first 100% online space museum.

It offers documentaries, exhibitions or virtual tours intended for the general public.

Youth series and virtual reality

Interactive exhibitions are also offered such as "Perseverance, discovering the Martian mysteries".

A free visit of about seven minutes to learn, while piloting the landing capsule, the role of the Mars 2020 mission. Other exhibitions are billed (from 0.99 euros) to allow the enthusiast, also author of science fiction novels, to fund part of its site.

For astronomy enthusiasts, Cyril Plou has created a free guide to accompany them in their first steps, and also provides much more in-depth (paid) online training.

Regularly, the content it produces will be enriched with new series and exhibitions.

In the coming weeks, “virtual reality videos and a space dedicated to the youngest” should complete the site, foresees the creator, who now hopes to associate many visitors with his “universe”.
