In India, a climate activist has been arrested for supporting peasant protests.

The 22-year-old Disha Ravi was arrested in the city of Bengaluru and appeared on Sunday in New Delhi before a court that had ordered five days of pre-trial detention, the police in the Indian capital said.

The woman is accused of having distributed a document on the Internet that incited protesting farmers to become violent during protests.

The document known as the "Toolkit" (in German: Wergkzeugkasten) had previously been distributed by climate activist Greta Thunberg, among others.

The government had accused unspecified interest groups of wanting to impose their agenda on India.

Government supporters set fire to pictures of Thunberg during counter-protests.

Photos of other celebrities, like the pop singer Rihanna, were also on fire.

Tens of thousands of farmers protested against the Indian government's agricultural laws on the national holiday at the end of January.

They pulled tractors into town, broke police barriers, defied tear gas and water cannons, and stormed the historic Red Fort in Delhi.

There they hoisted flags.

Police say one protester was killed when his tractor overturned, but farmers said he was shot.

Several bloody participants were seen on television.
