Disney is apparently not set on scheduling

Black Widow

for a streaming release.

The entertainment giant revealed to its investors on Thursday that the blockbuster which stars Scarlett Johansson in the first film dedicated to the Avengers superheroine, will indeed be released in theaters.

“We still intend to do a theatrical release.

We will be watching very carefully to see if this strategy needs to be reviewed, ”said Disney CEO Bob Chapek, according to

The Hollywood Reporter

.

For now,

Black Widow

, which was slated for release last year, is set to land in theaters on May 7.

Bob Chapek has indicated that several factors could change Disney's position, including the number of theaters open in the United States by then, as well as changing public demands as the pandemic continues.

Anticipated change

In other words, if the attempted blockbuster streaming releases prove to be successful, Disney and Marvel may be forced to rethink their position.

As the publication specifies, the release of

Soul

- the last film signed by Pixar - last December, on Disney +, boosted subscriptions to the platform, which today reaches just under 95 million subscribers.

Disney forecasts between 230 and 260 million subscribers by 2024. To achieve this, the studio may decide to focus on streaming for a few long-awaited releases.

Among the next Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbusters, in addition to

Black Widow

, we should discover

Shang-Chi

next July,

Eternals

in November and Spider-Man 3 in December.
