Regarding the "interim storage facility" for spent nuclear fuel from nuclear power plants in Fukui Prefecture, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. and the national government have informed Fukui Prefecture that the candidate site will be finalized by the end of 2023.

The presentation of the candidate site will be postponed two years later, but Governor Sugimoto has indicated that he will start discussions on the restart of the nuclear power plant more than 40 years after the start of operation, saying that there has been some progress.

Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. has a policy of installing an "interim storage facility" in a location other than Fukui Prefecture, where the nuclear power plant is located, and so far it has stated that it will indicate candidate sites as soon as possible with around 2020 in mind.

President Takashi Morimoto of Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. met with Governor Sugimoto at the prefectural office on the 12th and said, "One option is to share the interim storage facility in Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture with each electric power company. We officially announced the policy to finalize the candidate site with the end of 2023 as the final deadline.

In addition, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kajiyama, who participated in the interview online, said, "As a party to the policy, we will work hard on spent nuclear fuel," and understood the restart of the nuclear power plant more than 40 years after the start of operation. I requested the cooperation again.

In response to this, Governor Sugimoto said, "I would like the government and businesses to confirm the plan by 2023. We will discuss the restart with the prefectural assembly and consider future measures." He evaluated that there was some progress and showed his willingness to start discussions on restarting.

Governor Sugimoto had previously stipulated the presentation of a candidate site for the interim storage facility on the premise of starting discussions on restarting operations, but the timing of the presentation will be postponed until the end of 2023.

In addition, TEPCO is around an intermediate storage facility under construction in Aomori Prefecture Mutsu, and shows the attitude of local Mutsu is strongly opposed to the power companies of the joint-use plan, the prospect of realization does not have standing.
