  • The 2021 Victoires de la Musique deliver their verdict this Friday evening.

  • Among the many categories, some ready to debate.

    20 Minutes

asked six artists nominated in Revelations categories to imagine a perfect category for victories.

Often Victoire varies, very crazy who trusts it.

The popular adage (here stripped of its sexism) is still as true as the 2021 edition of the Victoires de la musique delivers its verdict on Friday evening.

Beyond the prize list or the quality of the ceremony, music and trophy lovers scrutinize the categories every year.

There are those that disappear, those that appear, those that merge, those that change their name ...

At the heart of the debates there was, for example, the question of hip-hop.

Does it need a Victory apart like rock or song?

Should we say "urban music" or "rap"?

There is also the question of the gender of the nominees.

Is it a good idea to divide artists according to their genre?

What about groups or duos?

Categories to imagine

These questions are not just anecdotal.

The way the profession congratulates itself says a lot about how it sees itself.

A ceremony must evolve along with the art it represents.

To give some air and ideas to the instigators of the Victories, 20 Minutes asked the six artists nominated in the Revelations categories for their "dream" category.

Hervé: The victory of mixing and mastering

“I often talk about mixing and mastering, I work with Julien Delfaud, he's a monster, he's my brother, mixing is important!

It's central, you can't do without it.

So I would say maybe mixer, director.

But there is something from the shadows too.

You can't speak on their behalf, you have to ask them.

I don't know if they would like us to vote for or against their work.

"

Hatik: The Composer's Victory

“Is there a composer of the year category?

If it doesn't exist, this is it.

We sing, but there are also those who compose.

"

Yseult: The Victory which does not categorize

"My biggest dream would be that we don't have to stress that" for the first time in over 30 years three black women have been nominated for the Victories ".

My biggest dream would be that there are no more categories in relation to the genre, that we stop that.

We are artists.

And also, it would be that we stop talking about rappers as if they were not artists.

These artists must be considered at the same level as those who are in other musical directions.

"

Clou: The Victory of "people we do not see"

“It would be really great to reward people in the shadows, who change everything and whose identity we do not know, who do not tell it to themselves.

It would be great to reward these people who work like crazy behind the artist who then say "Yeah, I did it all on my own" (laughs).

"

Noé Preszow: The Victory for Best Achievements, Arrangements and Mixing

“We know how much the success of an album depends as much on its sound success as on the writing and interpretation of the songs.

There are also sometimes albums whose quality is mainly its realization.

When a clip is successful, we salute both its director and the author of the original idea.

Well, it's kind of the same principle.

The director is the one who "makes real" the fantasy of the main artist.

And, of course, sometimes (and more and more often) the director (or co-director) is the main artist.

"

Lous and the Yakuza: The Victory for Best Alternative Album

“There is more and more musical hybridization among contemporary artists.

It is important that they are represented and that they have their place in the musical landscape.
