Five weeks after the emergency braking of an ICE in Lower Franconia, the police suspect that opponents of the Corona measures may be responsible for the dangerous action.

The knowledge gained so far on the fact "strongly" indicated a protest action, it said.

The investigators suspect a couple from the Bad Kissingen district.

A police spokesman said on Thursday that the environment of the 36-year-old man and his two years younger wife is also in view.

On Wednesday, police searched three apartments in Bad Bocklet, Bad Kissingen and Oberthulba.

Cell phones and data media were confiscated.

However, the suspects are still at large.

"There are no reasons for detention such as the risk of fleeing or the risk of blackout," said the police spokesman.

Therefore, they are not in custody.

On January 6, an ICE from Schweinfurt had passed through a tarpaulin stretched by wooden slats on the railway line.

The engine driver initiated an emergency braking on the high-speed line.

Nobody got hurt.

The railcar was slightly damaged.

Police later found more posters along the railway line between Waigolshausen and Gemünden, also with wooden slats, and removed them.

The lettering on the poster is still a secret

For tactical reasons of investigation, the police have not yet disclosed what was on the plans.

Due to the content, however, according to the police, there were many indications that it was a protest by opponents of the corona measures.

A special commission was established.

After the evidence was given, the officers then focused on the couple and their surroundings.

According to the police spokesman, it is unlikely that only two people put up all the tarpaulins alone.

Traces were secured at the scene of the crime.

It will now be checked whether they only come from the couple or from other people.

In November 2020, Lower Saxony's constitution protection authorities had already warned of possible attacks by violent opponents of the corona protective measures.

Editor's note: We have corrected the heading again because the term "Corona opponent" is widespread, but ultimately incorrect.
