  • Four Breton sailors will launch a sailing shuttle in the spring between Quiberon and Belle-Ile.

  • The crossing is currently only provided by the ships of the company Océane.

  • Their catamaran will be able to carry 67 passengers and will ensure three daily rotations.

They are ready to set sail, heading for the Mediterranean where their catamaran awaits them.

If a bank agrees to follow them in the adventure, their maritime link project between Quiberon and Belle-Ile in Morbihan will materialize in the spring.

“We are aiming for the Easter holidays for the first crossing,” emphasizes Léon Passuelo.

The four Iliens associates are ready to launch their sailing link between Quiberon and Belle-Ile.

Aged 34, the Breton skipper, together with three other sailors and investors, launched the Iliens company last year, housed in an incubator in Plouharnel.

The very young shipping company wants to offer an alternative solution to reach Belle-Ile from Quiberon, the crossing being for the moment only ensured by the ships of the company Océane.

“We want to give passengers the experience of sailing on a catamaran,” says Léon Passuelo.

Three daily rotations and 67 passengers on board

The project is also ecological with an almost completely carbon-free maritime link.

“We think we can sail more than 80% of the journey time,” he underlines.

To respect the arrival times and the frequency of rotations, the crew will still have to use a diesel engine first.

“But our ambition is to quickly switch to a 100% carbon-free engine thanks to a hydrogenation system,” explains the skipper.

In a few weeks, 67 passengers will therefore be able to board their catamaran which will provide up to three daily rotations until October.

The crossing to reach the largest of the Breton islands will take around an hour and a half, which is 45 minutes longer than by ferry.

"But the experience will not be the same and will not be much more expensive", assures Léon Passuelo.

The return trip offered by Iliens should cost 40 euros, compared to 35 euros for the company Océane during the high season.

“We are not going to compete with them either, but with the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to Belle-Ile each year, there is room for an alternative offer,” said the sailor, ready to cast off.
