According to a newspaper report, Germany's paediatricians in a fire letter to Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) warned that the practice would die due to the corona pandemic.

They are asking for more financial support.

Spahn's draft law is "unfortunately not suitable in the present form to adequately alleviate the existential needs of the resident paediatricians", quotes the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" from the letter of the professional association of paediatricians (BVKJ).

"Many practices are up to their necks," President Thomas Fischbach told the newspaper.

A corona-related decline in treatments “between 20 and 40 percent” is named as the reason for the acute loss of intake.

Because of the protective measures, fewer flu patients would come.

But many doctor contacts with chronically ill children and adolescents as well as check-up appointments would not be taken due to the current pandemic recommendations.

Although Spahn wants to further compensate for lost sales of the practices, the previous rescue package should be folded.

"We would be grateful if you could reconsider this project in terms of its effects," the association wrote to the minister.

Otherwise, many practices would be forced to fire employees or, if possible, to close them.
