The Supremes wrote US music history in the 1960s with hits like “Where Did Our Love Go” - now singer Mary Wilson has died, the only one who was there from start to finish.

The 76-year-old died at home in Las Vegas on Monday evening, said her spokesman Jay Schwartz.

The cause of death is still unclear.

Together with Diana Ross and Florence Ballard, Wilson formed the Supremes' first successful female trio.

While Ballard was replaced by Cindy Birdsong in 1967 and Ross left in 1970, Wilson stayed with the group until the group was officially disbanded by the Motown label in 1977.

The first number one of the group, "Where Did Our Love Go", sold millions of copies.

In addition to the 1964 song, the group is also available for hits like “Stop!

Known in the Name of Love ”,“ You Can't Hurry Love ”and“ Up the Ladder to the Roof ”.

This made the group one of the most successful of the 1960s - only the Beatles had more hits back then.

In 2014, in an interview with the AP news agency, Wilson said when on tour 50 years earlier she understood that they had a hit.

“I remember we flew instead of taking the bus home.

That was our first flight.

We flew home.

We really went through the roof. "

Motown founder Berry Gordy expressed shock at the death of Wilson.

According to Variety magazine, he said the Supremes have always been known as "Motown's darlings."
