actor

said that although his parents struggled to come to terms with his sexual orientation, he is convinced they were "not really homophobic".

“They didn't know anyone who was gay or anyone who had a gay child.

They had nothing to hang on to, ”he explained, adding that his father was convinced that homosexuality“ could be cured ”.

"He was like 'we're going to give him hormonal treatment.'

It was difficult to see that Russ was happy and that it had to be accepted, "said the mother of the star in the interview.

Protect from misfortune

If his father was uncomfortable with the idea of Russell Tovey being gay, it was largely because he felt that the life of a gay man was more difficult.

“For him, being gay was a path strewn with pitfalls and unhappiness.

Out of love, he wanted to correct this weakness, put cotton around me to protect me from all this, ”says the actor.

Today, Russell Tovey and his parents are much more serene in the face of this situation and the actor, in a relationship with the sports coach Steve Brockman, hopes that he can draw inspiration from his parents' relationship so that his story of love lasts that long.

“I want what my parents have.

After 42 years, they are still best friends and they laugh all the time.

This kind of love doesn't happen every day, ”he says.
