The birthday party of a 19-year-old Aachen woman with 26 guests in a rented holiday apartment in Cologne ended differently than planned on Tuesday night - with a police operation.

Around 1 a.m., residents reported a disturbance in the basement of an apartment building, the police said on Tuesday.

When the officers came, some party guests tried to run away, hide behind doors or lock themselves in the bathroom.

The officials dissolved the event, 26 people were sent off.

According to the police, the 19-year-old and her party guests are expecting administrative offense proceedings for violations of the Corona Protection Ordinance.

The landlord of the holiday apartment must expect a report due to the current ban on accommodation.

Merkel against any relaxation

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) has spoken out against any opening steps in the current corona lockdown until March 1.

The time in which the British virus variant has not yet gained the upper hand is decisive in order to get the infection numbers down with all possible strength, said Merkel, according to information from the German Press Agency of several participants on Tuesday in an online meeting of the Union faction in Bundestag.

For this reason, her view is that one should wait until March 1 before opening any steps, Merkel said.

This is difficult for parents and other affected persons.

But you can then take opening steps “with a clearer conscience”.

There are still differences about this, the Chancellor admitted before her consultations with the Prime Ministers of the federal states this Wednesday.

Merkel said she expected the British variant of the virus to be the dominant one in Germany in just a few weeks.
