The Syrian poet and translator Ali Kanaan described the UAE’s achievements in various fields and its strategy in facing the “Covid-19” pandemic as a source of pride for every Arab, praising the state’s advanced structure, which contributed to mitigating the impact of the precautionary measures that accompanied The start of the pandemic, such as the home quarantine periods associated with the sterilization program, as the virtual world and the activity it witnessed contributed to reducing feelings of isolation among individuals.

Kanaan pointed out that the cultural scene in the UAE is rich in its diversity, including various activities and activities, such as theater and film festivals, and plastic arts, some of which have reached the global level, considering that culture cannot be separated from daily life and what the community witnesses in terms of activities and practices, even food. What people eat is related to the concept of culture.

"A Generational Journey"

Kanaan added, during the evening organized by virtually the Emirates Writers and Writers Union - Abu Dhabi branch, the day before yesterday, under the title "A Generations Journey with Word and Life", presented by the media, Shahad Al-Abdouli, that creativity can produce in more fields, and it is important to be honest with Himself and with his time, and to express himself and the reality that he lives, whether in his local or external society, and to go freely in his writings, and not to imprison himself in specific ideas or templates.

Canaan, who in his career combined poetry, novel, translation and journalistic work, indicated that he used to engage in more than one work at one time, and these works varied between poetry, translation and journalistic work, as he had experience writing for theater after the 1967 setback, but he found that he was not suitable for writing. The play, as he does not like the harsh scenes, is an important part of this type of writing.

Between reading and criticism

Canaan stressed that reading is the basis of creativity, and without it it does not produce creative and rich writing, so there is no value to the writer without reading, and also without his teachers who learn from them throughout his life, so the writer, poet and artist remains a child who learns from everything he meets in his life, explaining that reading includes books of all kinds Press materials, even street commercials and shop names, which he did early in his life.

And he saw that the sober monetary movement in the Arab world is witnessing a retreat, with reservations about the rejection of some writers of the criticism directed at their work.

He added, "Work does not develop except through differences and opinions, and literary production does not develop except through criticism."

Stages of the march

The Syrian poet reviewed during the evening different stages of his career, and the most prominent of those affected by them since his childhood, led by Al-Mutanabi and Ibn Tammam, in addition to the role played by "Voice of the Arabs" in introducing him to many Arab and international creators and his literary works, and then influenced in later stages by poets Like Ali Mahmoud Taha, Shabi, and Gibran, as well as cartoonist Ali Farzat, he was inspired by some of his writings.

Pointing out that he is currently working on more than one work, including a book on Al-Mutanabi with the poet Muhammad Ahmed Al-Suwaidi, and another book on his memories in the Emirates, in which he spent more than a quarter of a century, in addition to translating Japanese poems of Haiku.
