The cold snap in France should not lead to a power cut -

France will not be threatened by a blackout during the cold snap this week, "security of electricity supply" being "assured", said the manager of the RTE electricity network on Monday afternoon.

According to RTE, “French electricity consumption” will reach 86,400 MW this Thursday but will remain below the winter peak recorded at 88,154 MW on January 11.

"The available production (between 88,000 and 90,000 MW) as well as the import possibilities (up to 11,000 MW) are sufficient to ensure the supply of electricity to the French" assured RTE in a press release dedicated to "the impact of the cold snap ”, which hit part of the country this week.

Several means available

The network manager warned last year that France's electricity supply this winter should be subject to "particular vigilance", especially in February in the event of extreme cold, the health crisis having disrupted the maintenance of nuclear reactors.

Several means can be mobilized to ensure the supply and avoid a generalized failure (blackout), such as for example a slight drop in voltage on the network.

Localized and temporary cuts can be organized "as a very last resort".
