Recently, Jason Lewis was caught on camera by a neighbor rifling grains of rice at stray cats on his property.

And while the footage aired on TMZ, the actor who played playboy Smith Jerod who Samantha Jones falls in love with in

Sex and the City

 has since apologized.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I love animals.

I tried for months to work with someone who comes to the neighborhood to feed a large group of feral cats to move them as they fill the lawns with fleas and trash.

I made the wrong choice by shooting the trash (not the cats) in order to scare them away with the noise.

To my animal-loving companions whom I disappointed, I'm sorry, ”the actor said in a statement.

A neighborhood feud

Since the video was released, Jason Lewis has been accused of animal cruelty on social media, even prompting him to turn off comments on his Instagram account.

According to Opel Barnes, the woman who filmed the actor's misdeeds, the cats in question are not that wild.

She is said to be looking to feed the cats after their owner died last September so she could approach them and, perhaps, find them a new home.

A good intention that seems to have been prevented by Jason Lewis.
