Country of 17 million inhabitants to which is added a diaspora of two million Ecuadorians, divided mainly between Spain, Italy and especially the USA ... especially in the State of New York, wedged between Peru in the South and Colombia in the North, Ecuador, the Latin American country most affected in proportion by the coronavirus, will elect its next president on Sunday, February 7, 2021, and will renew the 137 members of its National Assembly.

The outgoing head of state, Lenin Moreno does not represent himself.

The presidential election must define whether Corréism returns to power when the former head of state, Rafael Correa, sentenced to eight years in prison could not attend.

He now lives in Belgium and remains the titular shadow of the Ecuadorian left four years after his departure.

His runner-up, Andres Arauz, is leading the vote.

His hope is to win in the first round, ahead of banker and businessman Guillermo Lasso, from the Liberal-Conservative Movement.

Indigenous leader and activist Yaku Perez would come third.
