The Hamburg musical performer and singer-songwriter Jendrik Sigwart competes for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Rotterdam in May.

The 26-year-old convinced the two ESC juries - on the one hand 20 music experts, on the other hand 100 ESC fans - in a multi-stage selection process, announced the Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) on Saturday in Hamburg.

The station will announce which song the lively ukulele player will play on May 22nd in the Netherlands on February 25th (5:50 p.m. and 7:56 p.m. on the first)

The song is already fixed.

It is Jendrik Sigwart's first self-produced song.

“Jendrik is authentic through and through, has a great charisma and incredible entertainment qualities.

He rightly convinced the ESC juries.

We are very happy that he is running for Germany, ”said Alexandra Wolfslast, the head of the German ESC delegation according to the announcement.

According to the information, Jendrik Sigwart learned to play the piano and guitar as a teenager and graduated from the Institute for Music at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences with a degree in musical performance.

As early as 2020, the lead NDR had the German ESC contribution selected using a multi-level jury system and no longer via preliminary decisions on television and with audience participation.

However, due to the corona, the ESC failed at the time.

For Germany, Ben Dolic would have started with “The Violent Thing”.

The ESC will take place this May under strict Corona measures with artists from 41 countries in Rotterdam - but very likely without an audience.
