Criticized for her film Music which presents an autistic teenager, played by a neurotypical dancer (who is not autistic), the singer Sia promised that she had "heard the criticisms".

While her film is nominated for the Golden Globes in the category of Best musical or comedy film, Sia explained herself in tweets on this controversy, in which she was accused of not giving primacy to actors and actresses with autism and of show scenes of restraint.

The singer tweeted "I'm sorry," after promising that a message would appear at the start of the film.

The message in question, according to

Variety

, explains in particular that its film "does not promote or recommend in any case the use of restraint on people with autism".

The contention scenes, adds the singer, will be cut during the editing before the public broadcast.

After tweeting these messages, Sia deactivated her Twitter account.

The singer has already explained this controversy last November, claiming to have "tried" to work with an autistic person for her film.

“I really tried working with a non-verbal girl on the autism spectrum and she found it uncomfortable and stressful,” she explained.

A petition asking to “cancel” the film

has gathered some 17,000 signatures.
