Virtual warfare is sometimes waged in space, as evidenced by the Russian espionage attempt in 2018 on a French military satellite.

The threat is therefore real and the NATO countries have decided to guard against it by creating their own Space Center of Excellence.

The Atlantic alliance has just chosen Toulouse, to the detriment of a German site, to install this high-tech sentry.

“Dozens of expert officers” approaching

It is the Ministry of the Armed Forces which unveiled the news this Thursday.

The allies therefore opted for the European space capital, where France has also just installed, under the aegis of the Army, its own space command center (CDE).

This choice of NATO to host its space center of excellence is recognition of the assets and level of skills in the field of #Toulouse.

These teams, through their installation, will develop the local economy and therefore contribute to local employment.

“This choice of NATO (…) is a recognition of the assets and the level of competence of our city in this field”, welcomed Jean-Luc Moudenc (LR), the mayor and president of the metropolis.

He is also looking forward to the economic windfall in these difficult times.

"Toulouse will host by 2023 several dozen expert officers from many NATO countries," he said.

The choice also smacks of diplomacy.

The establishment of the new European weather forecast center has just escaped Toulouse.

To settle in Bonn, Germany.
