  • Annecy will install ten dispensers of organic tampons and sanitary napkins, accessible free of charge, by the end of February.

  • Through this device, the town hall, now headed by the ecologist François Astorg, wishes to facilitate access to all these hygiene products.

  • "Whether to respond to a need expressed by many young people in financial difficulty but also for occasional" troubleshooting ", these distributors have their place in schools and places frequented by young people," said the municipality.

Other municipalities in France have equipped universities or schools.

But Annecy is the first city in France to deploy this device at various points in the city.

This commune of Haute-Savoie will install by the end of February ten distributors of organic tampons and sanitary napkins, accessible free of charge.

These periodic protections, intended for young people, will be available at the Savoie Mont-Blanc University, where six distributors are planned, but also at the Youth Information Office and in the branches of the local mission.

Through this device, the town hall, now headed by the ecologist François Astorg, wishes to facilitate access to all these hygiene products and thus contribute to the fight against menstrual insecurity.

"Whether to meet a need expressed by many young people in financial difficulty but also for occasional 'troubleshooting', these distributors have their place in schools and places frequented by young people," said in a press release Guillaume Tatu, Youth Assistant.

Ethical products

Different models of protection will be offered in distributors, made available free of charge by the French ethical company Marguerite & Cie.

The municipality will take care of the installation of the equipment and the refilling of towels and tampons, made up of "organic cotton and cellulose, without GMOs or toxic or plastic agents", she specifies.

The town hall, which hopes to see this device become widespread in the coming months in the city's colleges, high schools and universities, recalls that the purchase of this type of product represents a budget of several thousand euros over a lifetime. .

"An Ifop for Solidarity Donations study determined in 2019 that more than 1.7 million people were experiencing financial difficulties in obtaining periodic protection", adds the municipality.
