On February 4, Ma Zenghui, a famous Chinese single-string artist, passed away at the age of 84.

  Ma Zenghui is the representative inheritor of the fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage. He was born in the famous drum music family in Beijing. His father Ma Liandeng and sister Ma Zengfen are both Xihe drum performance artists.

Ma Liandeng and his second daughter Ma Zengfen co-founded the "Ma Pai" Xihe Drum.

Ma Zenghui started his art at the age of 5 and sang Xihe Drum. At the age of 15, he joined the China Radio and Rap Ensemble and changed to single-xian. He studied under Hu Baojun, Bai Fengming, Shi Huiru, Liu Hongyuan, Jiang Yuequan and other famous artists.

  After entering the China Radio Art Rap Group, her singing is proficient, absorbing the best of others, and forming her own unique artistic style. She is unique in the monostring field and has sang dozens of traditional monophonic passages for decades.

Representative repertoires include "Du Shi Niang" and "Whipping Reed Flowers", and many modern repertoires have been sung.

  In 2012, Ma Zenghui was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Chinese Quyi Peony Award.

Many of her disciples, such as Cui Weili and Liu Xiumei, have become rising stars in the Quyi circle.
