• Outdoors: the most beautiful gardens in Spain to walk around in winter

  • Soundscapes: this is what the most relaxing destinations in the world sound like

They were inaugurated without much fanfare during the pandemic, so these bike paths are waiting for visitors

eager for freedom

and breaths of fresh air.

From Italy to the UK and from Belgium to the US, we jumped from road to road on the back of a bike.

1. From New York to Canada

The new Empire State Trail adds a whopping 1,200 miles to walk and bike through New York State.

There is no need to be alarmed.

Nobody expects it to be done in a row.

On the contrary, the route is divided into small perfectly marked itineraries that detail the milestones of the path, the estimated time on foot and by bicycle, whether it is

dog-friendly

or not and what type of pavement we are going to tread.

The trail runs through some of the most stunning areas in this part of the US, including the

Hudson Valley

, the

Champlain

Valley

,

and the

Adirondack Mountains

.

Basically, the Empire State Trail is shaped like a flat T: from Manhattan to the Canadian border and from Albany, the state capital, to Lake Erie.

It is expected to receive up to 9 million visitors a year.

2. Through the English countryside

Ten thousand years of history in the south of England.

This is what this circular route created last summer on the outskirts of London promises to the cyclist.

King Alfred's Way has 350 kilometers of idyllic landscapes and essential monuments: casitas type

cottage

everywhere, the imposing

Stonehenge

, like Farnham castles and cathedrals of

Winchester and Salisbury

.

It requires no technical knowledge, but it does require

mountain biking experience

as you follow dirt roads and even cross country through the heart of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire counties.

At about 50 kilometers a day and stopping to see the interesting places, this route can be done quietly in about six days.

3. On the shores of Lake Garda

About to debut, the 140-kilometer Garda by Bike circuit around the beautiful Lake Garda is a project that began to take shape two years ago.

At the foot of the Alps

and surrounded by picturesque villages, the largest lake in Italy bathes three regions: Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto.

With fantastic views, the route does not lose sight of the water, reaching over it in sections where a path has been built on wooden boards.

Although it is a long distance route, Garda is very familiar with no steep climbs or narrow passes.

And if those 140 kilometers fall short, Garda connects with the European routes

Eurovelo Route 7

and

Eurovelo Route

8 ... by distance it will not be.

4. From Paris to the sea

It exceeds 400 kilometers, but this is an irresistible route.

It begins in the same Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris and runs through more than

130 cities along the Seine River

and until it empties on the shores of Normandy.

La Seine à Vélo passes the house and gardens of Claude Monet in Giverny;

by the castle of

Malmaison

, the last residence of Napoleon Bonaparte in France;

by the cathedral of Rouen;

the Victor Hugo museum, and the spa town of

Deauville

.... history, art and glamor on a one hundred percent European route.

5. Fantasy in Belgium

First it was a path through a lake through which the cyclists seem to emulate Moses opening the waters.

This was in the town of

Bokrijk

.

Then came a circular route that ascends above the trees and gives 360-degree views of the entire forest.

The wonderful occurrence won them the award for the best infrastructure at the Dezeen Awards 2020.

But beware of the latest created in the Belgian province of Limburg, more specifically in the Hoge Kempen National Park.

It is a cycling path created

on a wooden bridge

almost 300 meters long that crosses the green landscape of the park.

The idea is to bring cyclists even closer to the environment and their animals.

The inauguration of this project called Cycling through the Heathland is scheduled for early this year.
