In light of the cruelty of life in the desert, and the scarcity of available resources, the residents of the Emirates did not succumb to many of the diseases that were attacking them, and they used what was available in the environment in which they lived from various plants and materials, to make therapies from them to heal and prevent diseases, and despite the development that life witnessed, Many of these treatments are still in circulation.

Tropical plants

There are many types and varieties of popular medicines in the Emirates, and they are either herbal or plant medicines, or they are mixtures, compounds, ointments, syrups and leaves, according to what researcher Dr. Abdullah Ali Al-Taboor mentions in his book "Popular Medicine in the United Arab Emirates". He explained that the UAE is witnessing the spread of plants in the tropical region, which is the region that extends across Asia and North Africa, and as a result, plants belonging to the desert family (Sindhi, Medium, Iranian, and Turanian) abound, and according to this, some plants grow near swamps, creeks and coasts, and they are called marine or coastal plants Other types of plants abound in mountainous areas, and they are called mountain plants, while the third type of plants grows in dunes and land areas, and they are known as land plants.

In light of this, plants are divided into three types that are spread in the Emirates: mountainous, land and marine.

Dr. Al-Taboor points out that there are three types of plants that grow in the Emirates, which are different herbaceous, shrubby and shrubby, as herbaceous types of plants abound in areas higher than the surface of the earth, and may grow in sandy areas, and shrub species, which are few in number, grow in The eastern and northeastern regions of the UAE, including Sidr - Al-Ashkhar - Al-Shu'a - Al-Sabr - Al-Sharish - Al-Jaz - Al-Tarfa - Al-Harmal - Al-Jada - and Al-Jibsan.

Treatment in the desert

As a bandage, then a mixture of sheep's hair, flour, and salt is spread over it, then splints are placed around the fracture, which are four pieces of firewood, tied with strings of hair for a period of 40 days, after which the injured recovers completely from its fracture, but if a Bedouin is bitten by a snake or Scorpion decoding

Moxibustion therapy

Soap with a little water, and a cotton is dipped in this mixture and then wiped with it to clean the wound, then take another cotton and cover the wound completely with it so that it sticks to it, and when the patient recovers, the cotton falls automatically.

Several recipes

The narrator, Ali Hassan Saeed bin Al-Sheikh Al-Rumaithi, added: “But if the patient suffers from pain in his stomach, then we describe the solutions for him. We call the worm in the stomach an ogre, and after one or two times the stomach becomes free of these impurities, and when the patient breaks his fast, that is, he continues his journey until complete recovery, he is allowed to eat food, and we used to take precautionary precautions while the person was in the sea for diving, as we took the earring (type From trees, its trunks are strong, and its leaves are used for tanning leather), after placing it in a hat (a container made of coconut seed loops, in which solutions are placed especially for treating divers' bodies), and it is tied with a rope.
