  • The Bourgonnière retirement home is hit hard by the coronavirus epidemic.

  • The presence of the English variant is strongly suspected as at least two cases have been identified.

"It's a crisis situation ... We hope to have reached the peak of the epidemic to reach a plateau, then a decline by mid-February.

"In Saint-Herblain, near Nantes, the Covid-19 epidemic is raging at the Bourgonnière nursing home.

According to its director, Erwan Dantec, 53 cases of coronavirus have been identified in just over 15 days.

Over the same period, the virus also claimed the lives of seven of the 85 residents housed in this associative structure.

“Since the first two cases, on January 16, they have all been isolated in their rooms, no more visits are allowed, laments the director, who confirms the situation, revealed by Télénantes.

And yet, contaminations have continued to increase.

"

In question, probably, the famous English variant, one of the characteristics of which is to be much more contagious.

It was impossible to have all the tests analyzed, but the two samples sent to the national reference center, which performs the sequencing, revealed the presence of this British strain, "not necessarily present in everyone but probably in the majority", fears the director.

In two days, 12 new cases were still recorded.

The vaccination campaign is suspended.

Need for staff reinforcement

Especially since the arms are starting to lack to support the residents.

About twenty employees of the retirement home are also infected.

“This absenteeism creates a lot of difficulties in supporting and caring for our residents,” says Erwan Dantec.

We have replacement visibility at only 48 hours, which makes the situation extremely complicated.
