In "Our Health" doctor Jimmy Mohamed, who also officiates in the health program of Europe 1 "Sans Rendez-vous", takes stock of this phenomenon on Monday and gives his advice to improve the health of his eyes.

Air rising in my eyes

Above all, we must understand the role of tears: made up of water, salt, but also sugar or antibodies, tears help lubricate the eyeballs.

In particular, this helps to create a sterile environment to fight bacteria.

But tears are also used to evacuate a foreign body, such as a small dust.

This is why we start to cry if, for example, an eyelash gets stuck in the wrong place.

Note that emotional tears have a different composition.

Still, all these functions are hampered by dry eyes that can be triggered by our environment.

Thus, in a context of health crisis where the mask is omnipresent, we know that it is a factor of dry eyes if it is poorly worn.

Because by exhaling, the air will go up and contribute to the phenomenon.

It is especially seen in people who wear glasses and have fog on their lenses. 

A screen helps to blink less

But teleworking also has a part of the responsibility: we are more often in an environment where it is hotter and where the humidity is less good. 

Fortunately, solutions exist to avoid suffering from dry eyes.

Start by placing your mask firmly on your nose to prevent the exhaled air from rising towards the eyes.

It is also possible to buy "artificial tears", after approval from your doctor, in a pharmacy.

They are freely accessible.

Be careful, they should not be confused with physiological serum, which has another role. 

And if you are telecommuting, so in front of a computer all day, consider taking a 20-second break every 20 minutes.

Because the screen attracts your attention so much that you tend to blink less.

It is therefore important to bring your gaze to 5-6 meters regularly to lubricate the eyes.
