  • The Covid-19 has changed our lives, and our modes of transport.

The new municipalities elected in June also wish to rethink traffic in city centers, which will not be without consequences for future projects of urban networks.

  • In the Nice metropolis, the Lignes d'Azur network should maintain all its new projects despite a drop in attendance.

After a year 2019 marked by the delivery of lines 2 and 3 of the tramway, and the adaptation of the bus network accordingly, Lines of Azure has been facing the health crisis since last year.

Like all public transport networks, the agency has had to deal with the concern of travelers to share the same vehicle.

What consequences and what prospects?

Where is the attendance?

It fell by 30% in 2020. And, this, “while the network was in a dynamic of significant evolution of its use following the delivery of lines 2 and 3 of the tramway and the restructuring of the network offering 10 % more supply, ”notes the management.

Since the start of the year, attendance is still down, by 40% compared to January 2020.

What impact on the current service?

While it had been decided to drastically reduce the frequency during the first confinement, Lignes d'Azur made the choice "to maintain an offer close to 100%, especially during the day".

"This makes it possible to better enforce the rules of social distancing with a lower attendance and a maintained offer", one notes on the side of the management.

Only the service offer beyond 20 h was revised downwards in connection with the implementation of the curfew at the end of October.

"A very sharp decrease in the use of transport in the evening has indeed been observed," he said.

What are the financial consequences?

There are losses of revenue, inevitably, but the network being managed by control, "there is no consequence on the driving staff", indicates the metropolis.

Are development projects threatened?

The answer is clearly no.

“Sustainable mobility being a priority for the Nice Côte d'Azur metropolis, all the investments planned in this area have been made and will also be in the years to come,” assures the community.

In addition to strengthening the network of cycle paths (some of which were urgently installed during the first deconfinement), the extension of tram line 1 in the Paillon valley, line 4 between Nice and Cagnes-sur-Mer as well a high level of service bus (BHNS) on the Nice north-south axis are particularly on the agenda.

More concrete announcements should be made in March.
