Schools, restaurants, shops and pubs are allowed to open, there is no longer a mask requirement: Due to the extremely low number of new infections, the British island of Isle of Man has ended its corona measures.

"The end of the lockdown means that life on the island can return to normal," said the government of the crown holdings in the Irish Sea on Monday.

There is no need to keep a distance from other people.

The first pubs opened their doors at one minute after midnight.

Previously, there had been no "unexplained" corona case for 17 days.

However, strict border controls are still in place.

There are only a few exceptional cases that are allowed to enter and then have to be in quarantine for several days.

"We have beaten the virus once and have now done it again," said Prime Minister Howard Quayle.

But he warned of carelessness: "Although this is a moment of relief and celebration, we must remain vigilant."

The Isle of Man with around 85,000 inhabitants is about one and a half times the size of the state of Bremen and lies between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It does not belong to the United Kingdom, but reports directly to the British Crown.

However, the UK is responsible for foreign and security policy.

The island is best known for the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race and as a tax haven.
