"It is a very rapid progression" which "worries" the teams, said Friday, its director.

The Arras hospital center, in Pas-de-Calais, recorded, in one week, 70 new cases of Covid-19 among the 2,000 members of its nursing staff.

"Or as much as one month at the end of 2020," said Hélène Deruddre, acting director of the Artois Ternois hospital group.

"We regularly record staff contaminations, but they never reach this figure in a week," she said, after a first speech on France Bleu Nord.

Four cases are "probably" variants

If it is difficult, according to her, to explain the origin of this "significant recrudescence", it could be linked to the presence of a variant.

Among the 70 cases identified, four are "probably" variants, awaiting further analysis, said Hélène Deruddre.

The medical teams, "on the front line for over a year", are "very tired".

"It's difficult, they have the feeling of not seeing the end", she lamented, specifying that a reorganization of the teams was going to take place.

"We will bring together Covid patients in the same unit, with 33 beds" in addition to the 33 beds in the intensive care sector.

According to her, this acceleration can only be slowed down by "re-containment".

“Health professionals are unanimous, they are waiting for containment measures that will allow the hospital to hold out”, especially since “we must also manage all non-Covid activity”.

"And this time, we chose not to deprogram en masse", unlike the first wave of March 2020.
