The "Drift Ice Story", a sightseeing train that allows you to enjoy the scenery of the Sea of ​​Okhotsk in winter from a slow train, began operation on the 30th.

The "Drift Ice Story" runs between Abashiri Station and Shiretoko Shari Station on the JR Semmo Line for about an hour.



After the departure ceremony was held at Abashiri Station on the 30th, we departed with about 20 people, mainly tourists in Hokkaido.



This year's vehicle is a two-car train consisting of a yellow body designed with drift ice and a green body expressing the blessings of the forest, and at the beginning is a mark based on a TV game set in Okhotsk, which was a hit in the 1980s. Has been done.



Tourists enjoyed the railroad trip by watching the sea and snow scenes of Okhotsk where white waves rise due to snowstorms from the train window, and by getting off the train and taking pictures.



A couple in their twenties who visited from Sapporo said, "I'm glad I was able to take the first train of the drift ice story. I've never seen drift ice live, so I hope I can see various things." I did.



Toru Taguchi, director of the Abashiri City Tourism and Commerce Department, said, "I hope that the drift ice will berth as soon as possible. I would like you to experience the drift ice in Okhotsk."



The "Drift Ice Story" will be operated twice daily until the 28th of next month.
