Three times the global drug trade

Hackers, computer hackers, now take control of the IT tools of French SMEs from a distance, only giving them back their freedom to work with heavy ransoms.

Further investigation

met several of these victims.

"This is the story of Monsieur and Madame Toutlemonde", explains Jacques Cardoze.

"Companies go out of business because of hacker blackmail."

Hacking is a very lucrative market: it represents three times the proceeds of world drug trafficking.

The report shows that in addition to SMEs, hackers are now targeting hospitals and media groups.

The Rouen University Hospital and the TV5 Monde channel were recently attacked.

A threat from China and Russia

Further investigation

followed the work of the police specialized in these cases.

The journalists also met hackers, the majority of whom are based in China and Russia.

"Moscow is a nursery of its kind", explains Grégory Héraud.

"And these hackers become unofficial regime spies, who give the information they fraudulently obtain to the Kremlin."

They are therefore never arrested.

"It is a force for Russia and China, whose hackers are feared at the global level," adds Jacques Cardoze.

"And that's a really good way to make money for these hackers."

The issue of

Complément d'instruction

devoted to hacking is broadcast Thursday evening at 11 p.m., on France 2.
