Last month, after a large-scale stalling due to heavy snowfall on the Kan-Etsu Expressway in Niigata Prefecture, training was held in Minami Uonuma City to protect people left behind in cars.

Last month, about 2,100 cars were temporarily stranded on the Kan-etsu Expressway in Niigata Prefecture, and it took more than two days to resolve them.

The training on the 28th was held on the site of the East Nippon Expressway in Minami Uonuma City, assuming that about 1,500 cars were stuck on the up line of the Kan-Etsu Expressway, and about 90 people concerned participated.

First, we looked at the procedure for a contractor dispatched during heavy snowfall to use snowmobiles and buggies to deliver food and blankets to people in cars that they suspect were stuck.

Training was also conducted for employees of the East Nippon Expressway to guide evacuees to the bus and transfer them to the hotel using the newly installed doorway on the expressway.

After the training, Ryushi Kubo, General Manager of the East Nippon Expressway Company Limited, said, "If a large-scale stagnation occurs, we would like to cooperate with related organizations."

East Nippon Expressway intends to strengthen its preparations for heavy snowfall by holding seminars for employees learning driving skills such as buggies.
