In Greece, concern about rising corona numbers is growing.

After the government allowed stores to reopen last week, the number of new infections rose from Wednesday to Thursday at 858 cases.

Compared to other countries, the number for the approximately eleven million inhabitants of Greece is low, but it has doubled since the shops opened.

The development worries the Greek experts - the easing would all have to be put to the test.

The increase was expected, but not at the speed, said virologists and pulmonologists in the Greek media.

The R-value is still below 1, but the plan to open secondary schools next Monday must be reconsidered, Charalambos Gogos, a professor of medicine at the University of Patras, told TV station Mega on Thursday.

At least in the more severely affected regions, schools should remain closed, he said.

The pulmonologist Nikos Tzanakis assumes that the numbers could even have tripled and that the number of unreported cases is high.

He estimated there could be up to 50,000 active cases in the country, Tzanakis told Skai television, calling for more testing to be done.
